Practical Tips to Stop Roof Tiles Being Blown off in Heavy Storms

The storm creates strong winds that are released in a particular place. It is very harmful, especially to our homes. The storm also creates intense wind pressure. Wind pressure is considered the common cause of failure for tiled roofs.  As the wind moves over the roof, it makes upward forces that cause the tiles to shake or fall off entirely, and DFW area roof damage from storms. It is vital to understand this subtle differentiation to build a safer roofing system. Preventing the lifting of the tiles is the key to keeping them on the roof. Below are the tips to avoid your roof tiles from being blown off during a heavy storm.

Understand the Cause

As the wind goes over the roof area, it causes the air pressure on top of the roofing to decrease. In the same period, the pressure under the roof increases. This increase in pressure inside the loft space causes a positive pressure on the roof tiles. On the other hand, negative pressure above causes the tiles to be blown off, lifting the tiles’ tail. The lower the pitch of the roofing, the higher the forces will be.

If the tiles are being vacuumed upwards instead of being blown, the old method of fixing the tiles is perhaps not the best. Fix All the Ridge and Hip Tiles

The parts which mostly being submitted to wind uplift are the eaves, verges, and ridges. In these regions, it is advisable to take additional precautions when laying the tile. Nail and secure all tiles in the periphery. A modest extra time required by the installation phase will ensure that the tiles remain protected even in the rain.
